5 Ways Social Media is Changing your Brain Right Now!

With Social Media being used by 1/3rd of the world’s population, recent studies show that our nervous system is now being rewired by it in a way it has never been in history.

1.  ADDICTION

5 to 10% of internet users are unable to control how much time they spend online. This is a psychological addiction similar to a substance addiction. There is a decrease in efficiency in the regions that control emotional processing, attention and decision making.

2.    MULTI-TASKING
Increased multitasking online between websites or gadgets reduces your brains ability to filter out interference and makes it harder for your brain to commit info to memory.  This decreases work efficiency

3.   PHANTOM VIBRATION SYNDROME
This is a new psychological disorder where you think you felt your phone go off when it didn’t. In one study, 89% of subjects said they experience this once every 2 weeks. It seems like our brains now perceive an itch like an actual vibration from our phone.

4.   DATING
Studies on relationships show that partners tend to like each other more when they meet online rather than with a face-to-face interaction. There is a statistical increase in success in relationships that started online.

5.   DOPAMINE
Social media triggers the release of dopamine the fulgurate chemical. The reward centers in peoples’ brains are more active when they are talking about their own views. The part of your brain related to orgasms, motivation and love are stimulated by your social media use.
